UCLA Bruins Should’ve Hired Pete Carroll for Shot in Arm

The UCLA Bruins football team hired DeShaun Foster as its next football coach to replace Chip Kelly who bolted to become the offensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes. UCLA should have hired Pete Carroll instead. Nothing against Foster. We root for people and hope he does well. But the program desperately needs a shot in the arm as it enters Big 10 play in 2024. Simply hiring a guy you’re just going to fire again in 4 years is not going to cut it for the Bruins. Granted, Pete Carroll will turn 73 years old shortly after the new season begins so he’s not really a long term choice either. But his resume and his ability to be successful in a crowded LA market is something UCLA should look at.

Speaking of “looking at”: 5-star Buckeyes QB flip Julian Sayin was trending on social media recently. Remember how Bill O’Brien was his lead recruiter at Alabama. Then Nick Saban retired and Sayin bounced. When O’Brien became the offensive coordinator at Ohio State, Sayin followed him to Columbus. Three weeks later O’Brien left for the Boston College job. Stay tuned.

And speaking of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the women’s basketball team is in sole possession of first place in the Big 10!

We look at tonight’s men’s and women’s hoops on the slate and we close things out with our weekly Tuesday Tweets! It’s all a part of Locked on Big 10 with Craig Shemon!
