PENN STATE COACH FRANKLIN DECADE-LONG HONEYMOON OVER?
Penn State football coach James Franklin has ten years under his belt at Happy Valley. He won one Big Ten title but has not made it to the college football playoff. But this year the college football playoff expands from 4 to 12 teams. Penn State, almost always ranked in the top 12 under Franklin, should benefit from this expansion more than any other team. But this may also place James Franklin under extreme job pressure.
IT IS ABOUT THE MATH
Let’s say three Big Ten teams get into the newly expanded college football playoffs. Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Michigan and Penn State are all viable options. But that means two of those 5 won’t get in.

Can Penn State football fans handle a James Franklin team being good, but finishing just outside of the playoffs again? We are not so sure. Penn State fans and alumni have lofty expectations. He may have to revamp his offense.
Speaking of Penn State, the school is renovating Beaver Stadium to the tune of $700 million dollars. School officials promise the site will be used for more than just 7 or 8 football games every year. They plan to use it as a year round business and entertainment hub that could actually turn a profit.
