Discussion about college football playoff expansion is stirring up controversy, and we’re diving into the heart of it. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and the rest of the Power 4 commissioners met last week in New York to discuss the future format of the college football playoff.

It is currently set at 12 teams. Then there was talk of the college football playoffs expansion to 14 teams. But now it seems a 16 team college football playoff format is preferred. And some conferences want a couple of play-in games which would push the college football playoffs to a 20-team format.
